Tara Shade DeLux Cantilever Shade

The Tara Shade DeLux is a cantilever shade with an 8′ × 10′ canopy that covers 80 square feet from a single offset post, so the shaded area stays clear of legs and posts. It is built for decks and patios where a centre-pole umbrella would eat the usable space, and for anyone who wants shade that can grow later. The system is modular and expands to 30′ in total using 10′ extension kits. The frame is weather-resistant, rust-free aluminum, and the canopy attaches with quick-release bungees so it can come off ahead of a storm or at the end of the season.

Quick Stats

  • Canopy: 8′ × 10′, covering 80 square feet per unit
  • Expandable to 30′: modular design, each extension kit adds 10′
  • Frame: weather-resistant aluminum, rust-free
  • Fabric: blocks up to 98% of UV rays while staying breathable
  • Canopy attachment: quick-release bungee
  • 17 fabric colors: Vanilla, Wheat, Mocha, Paprika, Graphite Gray, Laguna Blue, Sunflower, Pistachio, Olive, Silver, Pearl Onyx, Latte, Hazelnut, Bottle Green, Dove Blue, True Blue and Navy, with additional colors available on request
  • Two footer options: direct-to-concrete, or a moveable ballast base at an upcharge
  • Accessory mounting: the frame supports solar panels and a projection screen
  • Dimensions, wind rating and warranty: contact us for Tara's current spec sheet before ordering, particularly for exposed or coastal sites

A note on fabric. Eight of the seventeen colors (Silver, Pearl Onyx, Latte, Hazelnut, Bottle Green, Dove Blue, True Blue and Navy) carry an FR designation on Tara's fabric list that the other nine do not. If you are specifying for a commercial or municipal site with a flame-retardant requirement, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the fabric spec with Tara.

Cantilever shade vs. a centre-pole patio umbrella

The Tara Shade DeLux Cantilever Shade puts its post outside the shaded area, while a centre-pole umbrella puts it in the middle of your table. That single difference is the whole reason to buy one. With 80 square feet of unobstructed coverage from an offset post, the Shade DeLux works as an offset patio shade over a seating group, a dining table, or a stretch of pool deck where a pole in the middle would be in the way. A patio umbrella is cheaper, lighter, and takes minutes to put up; it also covers less, blocks less UV, and cannot be extended. Choose the Shade DeLux when the shaded area matters more than the setup time, and when you may want to run it longer later.

How is the Shade DeLux mounted?

The Tara Shade DeLux Cantilever Shade mounts one of two ways: bolted direct to concrete, or set on moveable ballast bases that Tara offers at an upcharge. Direct-to-concrete anchors into an existing slab and takes up no extra floor area. The ballast base is the no-drill option for finished patios, rented sites, or anywhere the shade may need to move. Two bases are required per installation, each loaded with four pavers to reach 200 lb, and the pavers are not included or shipped. Send us your slab details and we will confirm Tara's footing requirement before you order.

How much area does one Shade DeLux cover?

One Tara Shade DeLux Cantilever Shade covers 80 square feet with its 8′ × 10′ canopy. That is enough for a dining set or a pair of loungers. Because the system is modular, coverage scales in 10′ increments up to a 30′ total run using extension kits, which makes it workable as a commercial cantilever shade structure over a longer poolside seating area or a row of tables. Contact us if you are sizing an extended run and we will work out the configuration with you.

Fair Trade-Off to Know Before Buying

This is a permanent structure, not a piece of furniture you fold up and put in the garage. It needs either a drilled concrete anchor or two ballast bases loaded with eight pavers, it costs meaningfully more than an umbrella, and installing it is a project rather than an afternoon. If you want shade over a patio without any of that, a freestanding cantilever umbrella does a smaller version of the same job with far less commitment. The Panama Jack 10′ Round Cantilever Patio Umbrella ships with its own 105 lb base and needs no anchoring at all. More options in Shades & Umbrellas.

Common Questions

How much shade does the Shade DeLux actually give you?
The Tara Shade DeLux Cantilever Shade covers 80 square feet with an 8′ × 10′ canopy, and the fabric blocks up to 98% of UV rays while still letting air through.

Can I make it bigger later?
Yes. The Shade DeLux is modular and expands to 30′ in total. Each 10′ extension kit includes the poles needed to add another 10′ to an existing cantilever, so you can start with one unit and extend it in a later season.

Do I have to drill into my patio?
No. Direct-to-concrete is one of two footer options; the other is a moveable ballast base, sold separately at an upcharge, that holds the shade down with 200 lb of pavers per base instead of anchors. Two ballast bases are required per installation.

What colors does it come in?
Seventeen: Vanilla, Wheat, Mocha, Paprika, Graphite Gray, Laguna Blue, Sunflower, Pistachio, Olive, Silver, Pearl Onyx, Latte, Hazelnut, Bottle Green, Dove Blue, True Blue and Navy. Tara will also supply additional colors on request.

Can I mount anything to the frame?
Yes. The Shade DeLux frame is designed to carry accessories including solar panels and a projection screen. Contact us for the weight limit and the mounting hardware required for what you have in mind.

Does the canopy come off for winter?
The canopy attaches with quick-release bungees, which is what makes it removable without tools. We recommend taking it off ahead of severe weather and over winter.
