Made To Be Left Outside.
The A Series is the grill on a post you have used in a park or beside a pool: cast aluminum, no cart to rust and no wheels to seize. The Legacy range takes the same idea into 304 stainless with the VARI GRID cooking system. Both are built to be rebuilt, so a grill that has stood out for ten years gets new burners and grids rather than a trip to the curb.
Four Things To Settle First.
A little planning before it leaves us is what makes the first cook effortless.
Decide where it will stand
This one decision shapes the rest of the order. A post or a pedestal is permanent and keeps the floor clear. A cart moves with you. An island or your own masonry makes the grill part of the structure.
- 1stDecision to make
- 2Families, opposite rules
- 0Heads that work alone
Match the stand to your fuel
Natural gas and propane take different stands, and the two PGS families do it in opposite directions. Build yours at the top of the page and only the stands that suit your fuel are offered, so this one cannot go wrong.
- A SeriesPost on gas, pedestal on propane
- LegacyPedestal on gas, cart on propane
- 12 ftHose kits, where used
Get the opening before you build
For a built in grill the enclosure has to be right before the grill turns up. Tell us the grill you are using and you get the opening and clearances in writing. Ask before anything is poured; this is the expensive one to undo.
- LegacyOpening published
- A SeriesSized by hand
- AskBefore you build
Sort the supply
Gas grills need a supply run to the stand. The electric grill needs a 240 volt NEMA 6-30 outlet within reach and draws 24.5 amps, so have your electrician confirm the circuit while there is still time to move it.
- 240 VElectric head
- 24.5 AIts draw
- NEMA 6-30Its receptacle
The short version: decide where it is going to stand before you order. Everything else follows from that, and the builder at the top of this page walks it in the right order. Send us the space and we will look at it with you.
Talk it through with us first
Authorized dealer
Every PGS Order Leaves Here Complete.
Aqua Terra Backyard is an authorized PGS dealer. Every order is read back against the grill you configured before it ships, so what lands on your driveway is a grill you can put together and light.
Checked before it ships
Every order is read back against the grill you built. If a piece will not fit what you already own, you hear from us first, not after the truck has left.
What you built is what ships
Grills, stands, bases and accessories go on the order exactly as you configured them, so nothing gets quietly substituted on the way to you.
Cutouts in writing, before you build
Tell us the grill and how it is going in, and you get the opening and clearances in writing, in time for whoever is building around it.
Freight handled on the big pieces
Grills, carts and islands travel on a carrier. We book it, track it and chase it, and you hear from us if anything moves.
Three Things Worth Sorting Out First
What actually arrives on the truck
A PGS comes as the grill and the thing it stands on, and the gas connection is built into the stand rather than the grill. Order a grill on its own and there is nothing to bolt it to and nothing to connect it with.
It is the one mistake on this brand that costs real money, and the builder at the top of this page exists so that you cannot make it. Build yours there and everything that has to be on the order is already on it.
A pedestal means two different things here
On the A Series, a pedestal is the propane route and a post is the natural gas one. On the Legacy range it is reversed: the permanent pedestal is for natural gas and the cart is for propane.
It catches people out because the word is the same and the meaning is flipped. If you are ordering piece by piece rather than through the builder, check your fuel against the stand twice.
Two conditions on the warranty worth reading
PGS is refreshingly plain about warranty: there is no exclusion for buying online and no requirement that a contractor installs it. What there is, is a registration card that has to go back to PGS for the warranty to be in place, so do not bin it with the packaging.
The second condition matters more. These grills are warranted for residential use, and commercial, common area or apartment use carries no warranty. If it is going into a clubhouse or a rental, tell us and you get the position in writing before you order.
Questions We Get Asked
Straight answers, including the ones that talk you out of something.
Do I have to buy the stand separately?
Yes, and it is the thing to understand before anything else. A PGS comes as the grill and the thing it stands on, and the gas connection is built into the stand rather than the grill. A grill on its own has nothing to bolt to and nothing to connect, which is why our listings say so plainly in the title. The builder at the top of this page exists for exactly this reason: choose a grill and it offers only the stands that will take it, and it will not let you check out with a grill and nothing underneath it.
Which stand goes with my fuel?
It depends on the family, and the two families work in opposite directions, which is what catches people out. On the A Series a natural gas grill takes a post, either the 48 inch permanent one or the 24 inch post and base kit, and a propane grill takes a pedestal kit with a base. On the Legacy range it is reversed: the permanent pedestal is the natural gas route and the cart is the propane one. Get it backwards and you have bought two things that will not connect, so the builder keeps you on the right list from the start.
What is FuelStop, and how is it different from the ESTOP?
FuelStop is a one hour gas timer built into the grill's own control panel. It shuts the gas off by itself after an hour and needs no electrical supply at all, which is why it turns up on grills that live in shared or unattended spaces. The ESTOP09 is a different piece of equipment entirely: a 120 volt solenoid valve in its own weatherproof enclosure that shuts down the gas feed to a whole area on a schedule, and it can govern fireplaces, spas and heaters as well as grills. One is a feature of a grill. The other is a control for a property. They are not substitutes.
A Series or Legacy, which one?
Size, material and money, in that order. The A Series is cast aluminum, 30,000 or 40,000 BTU, with 330 or 434 square inches of cooking surface, and it is the park style grill you see mounted on a post. The Legacy range is 304 stainless throughout with the VARI GRID cooking system, and runs from the Newport at 540 square inches of main cooking area up to the Big Sur at 960. If the grill is going into a shared space and needs to survive being ignored, the A Series is built for that. If it is the centerpiece of somebody's outdoor kitchen, the Legacy is.
Which cover do I need?
It depends on how the grill is mounted, not just on which grill it is. One cover is cut for a grill standing on a cart or a pedestal and another for the same grill built into masonry or an island, at a different size and a different price. Build yours at the top of this page and the right one is chosen for you once you have said where it stands, which is the simplest way not to get this wrong.
Can I put a Newport grill on a Pacifica cart?
No. Each cart is built to its own grill, at 31 and a quarter inches for the Newport against 39 and a quarter for the Pacifica. The same goes for the pedestals and the Gensun Modano islands, which come in a 57 inch size for the Newport and a 67 inch size for the Pacifica. The builder keeps them apart so the combination cannot be ordered by accident.
Can I build one into my own masonry?
The Legacy grills and the electric one, yes, and there is a published opening for each of them. Tell us which grill you are using and you get the opening and clearances in writing before anything gets built, because this is the one mistake that costs real money to undo. The A Series is different: those are sized by hand rather than looked up, so ask us first and we will work it out with you.
What does the warranty actually cover?
PGS warrants the grill for residential use, and two conditions matter. The first is that the enclosed registration card has to go back to PGS for the warranty to be in place, so do not throw it out with the packaging. The second is the limit: the manual states these grills are designed for a residential setting and not intended for commercial installations, and that commercial, common area or apartment use carries no warranty. That is worth reading twice if you are buying for a clubhouse, a pool deck or a rental property, because it is exactly the sort of place these grills get specified. Tell us where it is going and you get the position in writing before you order.
Can I run the side burner and the rotisserie at the same time?
No, and PGS says so directly: the side burner kit and the rotisserie motor cannot run simultaneously. If both end up on your build, the page tells you. It is not a fault, it is a gas supply limit, but it is better to know before the first time you try to spit roast while somebody is making a sauce.
When does the electric grill make sense?
When gas is not allowed. The E27T is a 30 inch, 240 volt electric grill with the same one hour shutoff timer, made for properties facing gas restrictions. It draws 24.5 amps and needs a NEMA 6-30 outlet within reach. Have your electrician confirm the circuit before you order, because that is the part that decides whether it can go where you want it.
About PGS Grilling
PGS has been building gas grills in California for decades, and builds them the way commercial kitchens want them: cast aluminum or 304 stainless, every part replaceable, made to be left outside and still light on the first push. The A Series is the park style grill on a post you have used by a pool. The Legacy range is 304 stainless with the VARI GRID cooking system, from the Newport-740 up to the Big Sur. There is an electric one too, for properties where gas is not allowed.
Why is the stand sold separately?
Because one grill is built to sit on several different things, and the gas connection is part of the stand rather than the grill. The same A40 can go on a post set into the ground, on a post and base kit, on a pedestal, or into your own masonry, and each of those carries the gas differently. It also means a grill bought on its own cannot be used, which is why the builder at the top of this page walks the grill, the stand and the extras in that order and will not let you check out with a grill and nothing under it.
Which stand goes with which fuel?
The two families work in opposite directions, which is the trap. On the A Series a natural gas grill takes a post and a propane grill takes a pedestal with a base kit. On the Legacy range the permanent pedestal is the natural gas route and the cart is the propane one. Build yours at the top of the page and only the stands that suit your fuel are offered, so it cannot go wrong.
What is FuelStop?
A one hour gas timer built into the grill's own control panel. It shuts the gas off by itself after an hour and needs no electrical supply at all, which is why it gets specified for shared and unattended spaces. It is not the same thing as the ESTOP09, which is a 120 volt solenoid that shuts the gas down across a whole property on a schedule.
What does the warranty cover?
PGS warrants for residential use, with two conditions worth knowing before you order. The enclosed registration card has to go back to PGS for the warranty to be in place. And the manual states these grills are designed for a residential setting and not intended for commercial installations, with commercial, common area or apartment use carrying no warranty. If the grill is going into a clubhouse, a pool deck or a rental, tell us and you get the position in writing first.
