PGS Legacy Big Sur Grill Head, 51 in

The largest head PGS builds. 960 square inches of primary cooking area over four 304 grade stainless steel burners, plus a 355 square inch warming rack. VARI GRID variably spaced cooking grids, FlipGrate, anti theft knobs and a side mounted temperature gauge, all 304 stainless. Battery powered electronic ignition, so there is no wiring to run.

Rear burner, or FuelStop timer

This is the choice that matters on the Big Sur, and it is not a trim level. The rear burner version adds a 12,000 BTU infrared rotisserie burner as standard, which is what you want if you intend to spit roast. The timer version instead carries PGS FuelStop, a one hour gas flow timer built into the control panel that shuts the gas off on its own and needs no electrical supply, which is the version specified for shared and unattended spaces. You are choosing between roasting and unattended safety, so pick on how the grill will actually be used.

This is a head. It needs something to stand on.

PGS sells the grill and the mount separately, and the gas connection lives in the mount, so a head on its own cannot be used. The Big Sur takes the S48CART, which carries two doors, two drawers and a tank pull out, or it goes into your own masonry. The builder on our PGS page walks the whole thing and will not let you order a head with nothing under it.

One figure we are not going to print

AEI publishes two different total BTU ratings for the Big Sur: 86,000 on the product page and 120,000 across several of their own articles. Those are not reconcilable and we would rather leave the number off than pick the flattering one. Everything above is uncontested. If the total input matters to your gas sizing, ask us and we will get it confirmed in writing before you order.

Before you order

PGS requires the enclosed warranty registration card to be returned for the warranty to be in place, and the warranty covers residential use: their manual states commercial, common area or apartment use carries no warranty.
