Questions people ask us
Is the price per pound or per jar?
Per pound. A quantity of 1 is one pound of glass. Athena packs it in 10 lb jars, so we suggest ordering in steps of 10 (10, 20, 30 lbs and so on) to match full jars.
How many pounds does my fire pit need?
Athena does not publish a pounds per square foot rate. Its online material calculator on the Athena Fireglass site works it out from the shape, size and depth of your fire feature. As a reference, the instructions for Athena's Olympus fire tables call for about 20 lbs of media for the 36 inch linear pan and 30 lbs for the round pan. A drop-in pan reduces the amount of glass and filler needed. Send us your fire pit dimensions and we will work out the pounds for you.
How deep should the glass be?
Cover the burner completely, with no more than 1 inch of glass over the top of the burner, and leave the pilot uncovered so it can breathe.
Will it melt or smoke?
Athena makes this glass from tempered glass and states that it will not melt or produce harmful fumes or soot in a fire feature.
Will it work with my burner?
Athena's pan manual calls for glass 1/2 to 3/4 inch in size and rated for fire, which this glass meets. For another brand of burner, send us the model and we will check.
