Questions people ask us
How much comes in a bag?
Each bag holds 10 lbs of black lava granules.
Is this the same as the Black Volcanic Rock?
No. Athena lists them as two products. The Black Volcanic Rock (HP-B-R-10) is a separate item: black lava rock ranging from 5/8 to 1 1/2 inches, also in a 10 lb bag.
Do I need to keep it dry?
Yes. Lava that holds moisture can pop when heated. Cover the fire pit when it is not in use, and burn it for at least 30 minutes before coming close if the media has been wet.
Will it suit my fire pit?
Send us your burner or fire pit model and how you plan to use the granules, and we will confirm the right Athena media before you order.
