The SwamCam secondary camera adds a second viewpoint to a SwamCam system you already own, so a larger yard or an L-shaped pool has no blind spot. It includes its own power pack, so it is ready to mount and plug in.
When do you need a second camera?
When one viewpoint cannot see the whole approach to the water. A single camera covers roughly 1,700 sq ft across a 160 degree field of view and detects to about 35 feet, which suits a rectangular pool viewed from the house.
- L-shaped or wrapped pool areas where one camera leaves a corner unseen
- Larger yards where the far side sits beyond about 35 feet
- Pools with two separate approaches, for example a gate and a patio door
- Raised decks or planting that block part of one camera's view
What is the difference between the secondary and the replacement camera?
The power pack. The secondary camera includes one because it is going somewhere new. The replacement camera does not, because it is taking the place of a camera whose power pack is already installed.

How many cameras can one system take?
Three in total, so a single-camera system can take up to two secondary cameras. Alongside them one system accepts any combination of up to eighteen accessories, including door and window sensors, wireless keypads and additional indoor alarms.
SwamCam is an additional layer of protection. It is not a substitute for a barrier or for supervision, and constant adult supervision is still required.

What else do buyers ask about the Secondary Camera?
Does this work on its own?
No. The secondary camera pairs to a SwamCam system you already own, which provides the alarm and the app connection. If you have no system yet, buy the camera system first and add this afterwards.
Does it come with a power pack?
Yes. That is the main difference between this and the replacement camera. The secondary camera is going to a new position with no power already run to it, so the manufacturer includes the pack.
How many secondary cameras can I add?
Up to two, because one system supports three cameras in total. If your layout needs more coverage than three cameras give, talk to us about a second system rather than trying to overload one.
Will a second camera cover an L-shaped pool?
Usually yes. One camera sees a 160 degree arc to about 35 feet, which cannot wrap a corner. A second camera placed on the other leg of the L covers the approach one camera cannot see.
Do I need a longer cable for it?
It depends where it goes. The power pack is included but the run to the outlet is what limits placement. A 50ft cable is available separately if the second camera sits well away from power.
Does it detect pets?
No. The AI is built to tell people from animals, and the manufacturer states plainly that the system does not detect pets. It does not monitor animals in any way.
Does it detect someone already in the water?
No. Like the first camera it detects a person approaching the pool area before they enter the water. It does not monitor swimming activity and it will not detect a drowning.
Can I move it later?
Yes. It is mounted with screws and powered from an outlet, so relocating it is a matter of remounting and re-running power. The detection zone is set in the app and can be redrawn for the new position.
Not sure whether one camera or two covers your pool?
Send us a photo of the pool area from the house, or just describe the shape and roughly how far the far side sits. That is usually enough to say whether a second camera earns its place.
