The SwamCam SCCAM2 is a pool alarm camera that watches the area around your pool and detects a person approaching it. When someone enters the detection zone, it sounds a siren indoors, sounds a second siren poolside, and sends an alert to your phone.
Floating and in-pool alarms react once a body is already in the water. SwamCam watches the ground around the pool instead and raises the alarm at the approach. It is one layer of protection among several, and constant adult supervision is still required.
Which SwamCam system should you choose?
Most buyers want the single camera with the built-in WiFi repeater, SCCAM2SYS, because pool areas rarely have strong WiFi. There are two choices to make, and the second is where people most often go wrong. The first is how many cameras you need. The second is which alarm unit goes with them, and that depends entirely on how good your WiFi is at the pool.
Single camera or dual
One camera covers roughly 1,700 sq ft across a 160 degree field of view. A second camera is worth it for larger yards, L-shaped pools, or any layout where one viewpoint leaves a blind spot.
Which alarm unit
The alarm with the built-in WiFi repeater extends your home network out to the camera. The simple alarm has no repeater and relies on the WiFi you already have reaching the pool.

How does SwamCam detect someone at the pool?
The camera runs the manufacturer's OverWatch AI human detection over the area you tell it to watch. You set a danger detection zone in the app, so the system reacts to the ground around the water rather than to every movement in the yard. The AI distinguishes people from animals, which is what keeps a passing dog from setting the alarm off.
Detection happens before entry. The camera does not watch swimming activity and it does not detect a drowning in progress.
What happens when SwamCam detects a person?
Three things at once, which the manufacturer calls AlertThree.
Inside
The indoor alarm sounds a 91 dBA siren, so someone in the house hears it whether or not they are holding a phone.
Outside
The camera's own 80 dBA siren sounds poolside, at the point where the person actually is.
Anywhere
A notification reaches the SwamCam app. Tap it to open the 1080p live view and speak to whoever is at the pool through two-way audio.
One-touch emergency dial
From the live view you can place an emergency call directly, without leaving the app to find the dialler.
Does SwamCam still work if the WiFi goes down?
The sirens do. The system carries Zigbee alongside WiFi, so if your internet connection drops, the camera and the indoor alarm still trigger. What you lose is the phone notification, because that alert travels over your network to reach you.
The system also arms itself. Auto-arm re-arms after a wait time you set, so an evening when somebody forgets to arm it is covered.
How do you arm and disarm the system?

What certifications does SwamCam carry?
SwamCam camera systems are certified to ASTM F2208, the standard for pool alarms. The separate SwamCam door and window sensors are ETL listed to UL 2017, and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code requires UL 2017 entry alarms on doors that give access to a pool. Many municipalities require an ASTM F2208 pool alarm.
How far can a SwamCam system expand?

Where should the camera be mounted and how is it powered?
The camera runs on mains power, so the cord is what decides where it can go. It ships with a 20 ft run and a 50 ft cable is available separately. Work out the power route before you choose the mounting point, because cord length is the most common install mistake on this product.
Mount it high enough to look across the ground around the water, with the detection zone covering the approaches rather than the pool surface. The mounting kit in the box handles siding, chain-link and aluminium fence. The camera is rated IP65 and from -4°F to 140°F, so it stays out year round in most of the country.

What else do buyers ask about SwamCam?
Does SwamCam work if my WiFi goes down?
Yes, in part. The system uses Zigbee alongside WiFi, so if your connection drops the camera siren and the indoor alarm still trigger. You will not receive the phone notification while the internet is down, because that alert travels over your network.
Does SwamCam detect pets?
No. The AI is built to tell people from animals, and the manufacturer states plainly that the system does not detect pets. A dog crossing the detection zone should not raise an alarm, and the system does not monitor animals in any way.
Can SwamCam replace my pool fence?
No. SwamCam is an additional layer of protection that sits alongside barriers, never in place of them. Your fence, gate latches and cover all stay exactly as they are. The manufacturer is explicit that the system supplements adult supervision rather than substituting for it.
Will SwamCam satisfy my town's pool code?
We cannot answer that for your address and we have not checked it. SwamCam cameras are certified to ASTM F2208, and many municipalities require an ASTM F2208 pool alarm. Requirements vary by state, county and municipality, so confirm with your local building department first.
Does it detect someone who is already in the water?
No. SwamCam detects a person approaching the pool area before they enter the water. It does not monitor swimming activity and it will not detect a drowning. That is precisely why it supplements adult supervision rather than replacing it.
Do I need the WiFi repeater version?
Choose the repeater version if your WiFi is weak or absent at the pool, which is the common case in most yards. Choose the simple alarm version only if strong, reliable WiFi already reaches the pool area. Getting this wrong usually means a return.
What happens at night?
The camera carries eight infrared LEDs, which the manufacturer describes as providing limited night vision. Detection continues after dark within that limit. If your pool area already has lighting, leaving it on gives you a far more useful live view when an alert arrives.
How far from the house can the camera go?
The camera needs mains power, so the practical limit is cord length rather than signal range. It ships with a 20ft run. A 50ft cable is available separately if the camera sits further out. Plan the power route before you settle on a mounting point.
How many cameras and accessories can one system take?
One system supports up to three cameras in total, so you can add up to two secondary cameras. You can also add any combination of up to eighteen accessories, including door and window sensors, wireless keypads and additional indoor alarms.
Do I need a subscription?
The system works without one. A Premium Subscription is optional and adds features such as creating and managing unique keypad access codes for different users. Confirm current subscription terms with the manufacturer before relying on any subscription only feature.
