SwamCam Door and Window Sensor Pool Alarm | SCDS1
SwamCam Door and Window Sensor Pool Alarm | SCDS1
The SwamCam door and window sensor detects when a monitored door or window opens and immediately alerts your SwamCam system, which sounds its sirens and sends a notification to your phone. It covers the way a child reaches the pool: through the house.
A camera watches the pool area. An entry sensor catches the step before that, at the door or window itself. Together they are two layers rather than one. Neither replaces a barrier, and constant adult supervision is still required.
Which pack size do you need?
Count every door and window that opens onto the pool area and allow one sensor for each. The two pack is priced below two singles, so match the pack to the number of openings rather than buying one and coming back.
| Model | Sensors | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| SCDS1 | 1 | A single patio door, or adding one opening to an existing system |
| SCDS1-2PK | 2 | Better value per sensor. Two openings, typically a slider and a back door |
What are the sensor's key specifications?
A single CR2 3V battery lasting roughly 6 to 12 months, Zigbee wireless reaching up to 100 ft line of sight, rated -4°F to 140°F, water resistant, and ETL listed to UL 2017.

How does the sensor fit into a SwamCam system?
The sensor pairs over Zigbee to the alarm hub in your SwamCam system. When a monitored door or window opens while the system is armed, the sensor reports it and the system responds the way it responds to a detection at the pool: the indoor alarm sounds, and a notification reaches the SwamCam app.
Because it runs on Zigbee rather than your WiFi, the link between sensor and hub does not depend on your internet connection being up.
- Pairs to an existing SwamCam camera system, or to the SCDSK1-HS hub kit
- Up to eighteen accessories on one system, in any combination
- Armed and disarmed alongside the rest of the system, from the app or the keypad
- Low battery reported in the app, per sensor
What does UL 2017 certification mean for pool safety?
UL 2017 is the safety standard covering entry alarms, and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code requires UL 2017 entry alarms on doors that give access to a pool. These sensors are ETL listed to that standard.
Where should the sensors be mounted?
On every door and window a child could use to reach the pool area, including sliders, side doors and low windows. Mount the sensor and its magnet on the frame and the moving panel so the two separate as the opening moves.
The sensor is water resistant and rated from -4°F to 140°F, but the manufacturer publishes no IP rating for it, so choose a position shielded from direct spray and standing water. Range is up to 100 ft with clear line of sight, and walls, metal and appliances all reduce that. Test a far-corner sensor in place before you fix it permanently.
Manufacturer Safety Warning
WARNING: This system is not a life saving system and is not intended to be solely relied upon by user for supervising an area of safety concern. This system is meant to supplement active human supervision of minors. This system does not monitor swimming activities and will not detect drowning. This system does not detect pets. This system is subject to technology shortfalls such as (but not limited to) interruptions in electrical power or WiFi signal. Always make sure minors are properly supervised by an adult. What else do buyers ask about these sensors?
Do these sensors work on their own?
No. A sensor needs either a SwamCam camera system or the SwamCam sensor hub kit to connect to. On its own it has nothing to report to. If you do not have a camera system, buy the hub and sensor kit rather than a bare sensor.
What does UL 2017 certification actually mean?
UL 2017 is the safety standard covering entry alarms. The International Swimming Pool and Spa Code requires UL 2017 entry alarms on doors giving access to a pool. These sensors are ETL listed to that standard. Confirm your own local requirements with your building department.
Which pack size should I buy?
Count the doors and windows that open onto the pool area, and allow one sensor per opening. The two pack works out cheaper per sensor than buying two singles, so match the pack to your door and window count.
How long does the battery last?
The sensor takes a single CR2 3 volt battery, which the manufacturer rates at approximately six to twelve months of standard use. The app tells you when a sensor is running low, so you are not left guessing which one needs replacing.
Can these sensors be used outdoors?
The manufacturer lists the sensor as water resistant and rates it from -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. No IP rating is published for the sensor specifically. Mount it where it is shielded from direct spray and standing water rather than fully exposed.
How far can a sensor be from the hub?
Up to 100 feet with unobstructed line of sight. Walls, appliances and metal all cut that down. If a sensor will sit at the far end of the house from the hub, test it in position before you commit to a permanent mounting spot.
Does the sensor detect someone entering the water?
No. It reports that a monitored door or window has opened. It does not watch the pool, it does not monitor swimming, and it will not detect a drowning. It is one layer among several and adult supervision is still required.
Will these satisfy my local pool code?
We cannot answer that for your address and we have not checked it. The sensors are ETL listed to UL 2017 and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code requires UL 2017 entry alarms, but requirements vary by jurisdiction. Confirm with your local building department.
Can I add more sensors later?
Yes. One SwamCam system takes any combination of up to eighteen accessories, so sensors can be added as you go. Adding one to an existing system is a pairing step in the app rather than a fresh installation.
Not sure how many sensors you need?
Tell us how many doors and windows open onto your pool area and whether you already run a SwamCam camera system, and we will tell you what to order and whether you need the hub kit. Manuals, warranties and the UL 2017 listing documentation are on our manuals and guides page, alongside the rest of our pool safety range. Aqua Terra Backyard is a retailer, not an installer.
