Lexington Hearth Rickhouse Non-Combustible Mantel
Lexington Hearth Rickhouse Non-Combustible Mantel

The Lexington Hearth Rickhouse is a non-combustible mantel shelf cast to look like an old-growth timber, with bark-edge waning, mortise and tenon joinery, deep checking, knots, saw marks and end grain. It is 7.5 inches high and 7.5 inches deep, and this listing covers the 60 and 72 inch lengths. It is cast in Burncrete, Lexington Hearth's non-combustible formulation certified to ASTM E136, and hand-painted in Lexington, Kentucky. Joinery detail is cast right into the face, so it reads like a working timber.

Questions people ask us
Which lengths and finishes can I order?
We list Maduro in 60 and 72 inch; Pale Honey in 60 and 72 inch; Roasted Chestnut in 60 inch; Weathered Grey in 72 inch. Lexington Hearth paints the Rickhouse in five standard finishes and also makes custom colors and lengths at the factory, so ask us if you need a different combination.
How far above the fireplace can it go?
Lexington Hearth's install guide gives a general guideline for its non-combustible mantels: the bottom of the mantel at least 6 inches above the fireplace for units under 50,000 BTU, and at least 12 inches for units of 50,000 BTU and up. It also says to follow local building codes and the fireplace manufacturer's minimum clearances. Your fireplace manual has the final say, so check its mantel clearance before you mark the wall.
How does it mount?
It hangs on the mounting bracket in the box. The bracket screws into the wall studs with the 2.5 inch screws, then three 2.25 inch self-drilling screws fix the mantel to the bracket through the pre-drilled holes in its top. Lexington Hearth calls for 3 studs for a 60 inch mantel and 4 studs for a 72 inch mantel, with each screw at least 1.5 inches into the stud. On masonry, use anchors rated for four times the load. Mantels are heavy, so plan on two people.
Can I make it longer than 72 inches?
Yes. Lexington Hearth makes a matching 24 inch Rickhouse extension. It sets end to end with the main beam, and a decorative bracket trim covers the joint so the run reads as one beam. Lexington Hearth says this is how its mantels go past 72 inches.
Do corbels go with it?
Lexington Hearth makes its Rustic Corbels to coordinate with the Rickhouse. They are decorative and not weight bearing, so the mantel still hangs on its own bracket.
Can I cut or drill it?
No. Lexington Hearth warns against drilling, sawing, sanding or machining its cast mantels, because that can release ceramic fiber and crystalline silica dust. Use the pre-drilled holes, and if you need a different length, ask us about a factory custom length. Also keep tape off the painted finish; cover it with paper or plastic first.
