The Grand Canyon Safety Pilot Quick Mount Kit is a low profile, manual on/off standing pilot valve kit for gas log burners, rated at 90,000 BTU on natural gas or propane. A thermocouple sits in the pilot flame and keeps the gas shut off unless the pilot is lit, and a hand knob turns the fire on and off. Choose GAS-SPQMKN for natural gas or GAS-SPQMKLP for propane. Grand Canyon lists the safety pilot kit for indoor and outdoor use.

Follow the gas flow arrow.Grand Canyon warns that the valve may not shut off if it is installed against the direction of gas flow, and that it must be installed by a certified and trained gas professional. A licensed gas professional should make the gas connection to Grand Canyon's instructions, the National Fuel Gas Code and local codes.

Natural gas or propane, which one do I need?

Match the kit to the gas at your fireplace. GAS-SPQMKN is the natural gas kit and GAS-SPQMKLP is the propane kit. Both are rated at 90,000 BTU, and the propane kit adds vermiculite and the 218P LP pilot orifice.

How do I light it?

Turn the knob to PILOT, push it in, light the pilot and hold the knob in for about one minute, then turn it to ON. Use your hand only, never tools.

Which burners does it work with?

On propane, Grand Canyon lists the kit for the 2 Burner, Glass Burner and Kiva from 18" to 42" and the 3 Burner from 18" to 36". For larger burners, look at the high capacity safety pilot kit.

Can I add a remote?

This is a manual on/off kit. If you want remote control, Grand Canyon's millivolt quick mount kit works with the GCRK on/off remote.

Can it be used outside?

Yes. Grand Canyon lists the safety pilot kit for indoor and outdoor use.
