Questions people ask us
How much height does each section add?
Lengths are nominal. Duravent says to subtract 1 1/4" for each joint overlap, so a 48" section adds about 46 3/4" once it is joined.
Galvalume or stainless outer wall?
Both use the same 430 stainless steel inner wall and insulation. The outer wall is galvalume or 430 stainless steel, and Duravent requires the stainless outer wall for installation in Canada.
Which appliances is DuraTech listed for?
Duravent lists DuraTech 5" to 8" for wood stoves, fireplaces, furnaces, boilers, ranges, water heaters and other wood, oil, coal or gas appliances, plus factory-built zero-clearance fireplaces. It is listed to UL 103 HT and ULC S604. It is not for forced-draft, positive-pressure appliances, and the appliance manual always decides the venting.
How tall must the chimney be above the roof?
Duravent's instructions follow NFPA 211: at least 3 feet above the roof penetration and at least 2 feet higher than any part of the building within 10 feet.
