138,000 BTU Heat + Cool ICEBREAKER® ThermoLink® Titanium PoolSync® Technology
Yes, the current SQ200R both heats and cools your pool.

Current HeatWave SuperQuiet® models are AquaCal ICEBREAKER® units with heating, cooling and Auto-Temp capability. That makes the SQ200R an excellent option for homeowners who want powerful pool heating in cooler weather and active water cooling during hot summer conditions.

The AquaCal HeatWave SuperQuiet SQ200R is the highest-capacity model in AquaCal's current residential HeatWave SuperQuiet lineup, delivering up to 138,000 BTU of heating output under AHRI 80°F air / 80% RH / 80°F water conditions. It is designed for demanding residential pool applications where higher heating capacity, strong cool-weather performance and reversible pool heating and cooling are priorities.

Unlike a basic heat-only pool heat pump, the SQ200R uses AquaCal's ICEBREAKER® heat-and-cool technology. It can heat the pool when additional warmth is needed, cool the water during hot weather, or operate in Auto-Temp mode to help maintain the selected temperature range. At its core is AquaCal's ThermoLink® titanium heat exchanger, paired with a scroll compressor and corrosion-proof outdoor cabinet.

Why Choose the SQ200R Over the T130 or SQ140R?

Choose the SQ200R when the application calls for more heating capacity than AquaCal's smaller residential options. Its 138,000 BTU AHRI rating provides additional heating headroom over both the 123,000 BTU TropiCal T130 and 114,000 BTU HeatWave SuperQuiet SQ140R.

SQ200R vs. TropiCal T130

The T130 uses full inverter technology and can modulate its output as demand changes. The SQ200R instead prioritizes higher maximum heating capacity, producing 138,000 BTU at 80/80/80 compared with 123,000 BTU for the T130. Both current models provide heating and cooling.

SQ200R vs. SQ140R

Both belong to the HeatWave SuperQuiet ICEBREAKER® family and both heat and cool. The key difference is capacity: the SQ200R delivers 138,000 BTU at 80/80/80 compared with 114,000 BTU from the SQ140R.

Better for Higher Heat Loads

Larger pools, cooler climates, longer desired swim seasons and higher target temperatures can all increase heating demand. The SQ200R provides additional capacity for installations where a smaller model may take longer to recover.

Not Sized by Gallons Alone

Proper heat-pump sizing should account for pool dimensions, surface area, geographic location, ambient conditions, desired water temperature, wind exposure and whether a pool cover is used. Gallon volume alone does not determine the correct heater size.

Heat, Cool & Auto-Temp Control

One of the biggest advantages of the current AquaCal SQ200R is that it is not limited to heating. As an ICEBREAKER® model, the system can reverse operation to actively cool pool water when temperatures climb above the desired setpoint.

Heat Mode

Transfers heat from the surrounding air into the pool to extend the swimming season and maintain a comfortable water temperature.

Cool Mode

Reverses operation to remove heat from the pool water, helping maintain a more refreshing swimming temperature during hot weather.

Auto-Temp

Allows the system to manage temperature automatically using available heating and cooling operation rather than limiting the equipment to only one direction of temperature control.

PoolSync® Technology

AquaCal's PoolSync® platform supports remote temperature adjustment, operating-mode control, performance monitoring, diagnostics and system updates through the PoolSync ecosystem.

ThermoLink® Titanium Heat Exchanger

The SQ200R uses AquaCal's patented ThermoLink® titanium heat exchanger. Its hydraulic design is engineered for efficient heat transfer while maintaining low restriction through the pool circulation system.

  • Pure titanium heat exchanger construction
  • Designed for long-term resistance to pool-water chemical corrosion
  • Patented hydraulic design adds approximately 2 PSI at 45 GPM
  • Well suited for systems using variable-speed or two-speed pool pumps
  • 30–70 GPM manufacturer-specified operating flow range
Important Sizing Note: Do not select a pool heat pump using gallons alone. Correct sizing depends on pool surface area and volume, geographic location, desired pool temperature, expected ambient conditions, wind exposure, swim season and use of a pool cover. A larger pool in a warm climate may require less heating capacity than a smaller pool operating through a colder season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the AquaCal SQ200R heat and cool?

Yes. The current AquaCal HeatWave SuperQuiet SQ200R is an ICEBREAKER® heat-and-cool pool heat pump. It can heat pool water, actively cool it and operate using AquaCal's Auto-Temp functionality.

How many BTUs is the AquaCal SQ200R?

The SQ200R is rated at 138,000 BTU of heating output at AHRI 80°F water / 80°F air / 80% relative humidity conditions. AquaCal rates it at 130,000 BTU at 80°F air and 63% RH, and 88,000 BTU at 50°F air and 63% RH.

What size pool can an AquaCal SQ200R heat?

There is no single gallon rating that correctly sizes the SQ200R for every installation. Pool dimensions, surface area, location, climate, desired water temperature, wind exposure, pool-cover use and the length of the desired swimming season all affect the required heating capacity.

The SQ200R is AquaCal's higher-capacity current HeatWave SuperQuiet residential model and is typically considered where a substantial heating load or faster temperature recovery is required.

What is the difference between the SQ200R and SQ140R?

Both current HeatWave SuperQuiet models provide ICEBREAKER® heating and cooling. The primary difference is capacity. The SQ140R is rated at 114,000 BTU at 80/80/80 conditions, while the SQ200R increases output to 138,000 BTU.

What is the difference between the SQ200R and TropiCal T130?

Both can heat and cool the pool. The TropiCal T130 uses inverter technology that varies compressor output as demand changes, while the HeatWave SuperQuiet SQ200R uses AquaCal's scroll-compressor platform and provides greater maximum heating capacity at the manufacturer's 80/80/80 rating: 138,000 BTU for the SQ200R versus 123,000 BTU for the T130.

Can the SQ200R operate in cooler weather?

Yes. The HeatWave SuperQuiet series uses AquaCal's ICEBREAKER® reversible design, which is intended to extend the swimming season and continue providing heating in lower ambient temperatures than conventional heat-only pool heat pumps. Heating output will decrease as outdoor temperature falls.

Does the SQ200R work with a variable-speed pool pump?

Yes. AquaCal specifically designs its ThermoLink® hydraulic system for low pressure loss and compatibility with variable-speed and two-speed circulation pumps. The SQ200R requires water flow within the manufacturer's specified 30–70 GPM range.

What electrical service does the SQ200R require?

SQ200R electrical requirements depend on the exact factory configuration. AquaCal lists 208–230V single-phase, 200–230V three-phase and 460V three-phase versions. Always confirm the complete model configuration and electrical requirements before ordering and installation.

Installation Note

The AquaCal SQ200R is designed for outdoor pool-equipment installations with the airflow and service clearances specified by AquaCal. Proper water flow, electrical service, equipment-pad placement and condensate management should be confirmed before installation.

Because electrical configurations vary, verify the complete SQ200R model configuration, voltage and phase before ordering. Installation should be completed by a qualified pool-equipment or HVAC professional in accordance with the AquaCal installation manual and applicable electrical codes.

Not Sure Whether the SQ200R Is the Right Size?

Choosing the right pool heat pump depends on more than gallon capacity. For accurate sizing, have your pool dimensions or gallon volume, installation ZIP code, desired water temperature, expected swimming season and information about any pool cover available. Aqua Terra Backyard can help compare the SQ200R with other AquaCal options and determine which capacity makes the most sense for your application.
