Weathering steel that forms its own protective patina outdoors, deepening from raw steel to a rich rust-brown over the first months.
Living with it
Corten is meant to rust — that patina is the finish. Expect run-off staining on light stone or concrete underneath during the first season. Follow the manufacturer's manual for clearances, gas connection and first lighting, and have gas work done by a licensed professional.
