SwamCam Simple Alarm

The SwamCam simple alarm is an indoor alarm for a SwamCam system. When the system detects a person at the pool it sounds a 91 dBA siren inside the house. It has no WiFi repeater, so it suits homes whose WiFi already reaches the pool.

Is the simple alarm the right alarm for you?

Only if your WiFi already reaches the pool area reliably. This unit sounds the indoor siren but does not extend your network out to the camera. If the signal is weak out there, you want the alarm with the built-in WiFi repeater instead.

Model Indoor siren Extends WiFi Choose it when
SCALM1 91 dBA No WiFi already reaches the pool reliably
SCRP2 91 dBA Yes The usual case. WiFi is weak at the pool
Two reasons people buy this unit. Either as a replacement for a simple alarm already in a system, or as a second indoor siren in a larger house where one alarm cannot be heard everywhere. It is not a starting point on its own.

Does it still sound if the WiFi goes down?

Yes. The alarm talks to the camera over Zigbee rather than your WiFi, so a dropped internet connection does not stop the siren. What stops is the notification to your phone, because that travels over your network.

SwamCam is an additional layer of protection. It is not a substitute for a barrier or for supervision, and constant adult supervision is still required.

What else do buyers ask about the Simple Alarm?

Does this work on its own?

No. It is an indoor alarm for a SwamCam camera system and does nothing without one. If you have no system yet, start with the camera system, which includes an alarm.

What is the difference between this and the alarm with the repeater?

The WiFi repeater. Both sound a 91 dBA indoor siren. The SCRP2 also extends your home network out to the camera, which most pool areas need. This one does not.

Can I add this as a second indoor siren?

Yes, and that is a common reason to buy it. In a larger house one alarm may not be audible everywhere, so a second unit in another part of the house covers the gap.

Does it sound if the internet is down?

Yes. It communicates with the camera over Zigbee rather than WiFi, so the siren still triggers. The phone notification is what you lose while the connection is out.

Does it need to be plugged in?

Yes, it runs on mains power at 110 to 240 volts. Site it where it will be heard from the parts of the house people actually occupy, and where an outlet is available.

How far from the camera can it be?

Up to 100 feet with unobstructed line of sight, which is the manufacturer's figure for clear air. Walls, appliances and metal all reduce it in practice, so hold the unit where you intend to site it and test before committing.

Is this item in stock?

The manufacturer has listed this model on backorder of roughly six weeks on their own site. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm the current lead time from the distributor.

Will it wake someone who is asleep?

It sounds 91 dBA measured at ten feet, which is loud. How well that carries depends on your house, distance and closed doors, so place it with that in mind rather than assuming one unit covers everywhere.

Not sure whether you need the simple alarm or the repeater version?

It comes down to one question: does your WiFi reach the pool reliably today? If you are not certain, stand at the camera position with your phone and check. Manuals, warranties and certificates are on our manuals and guides page. Aqua Terra Backyard is a retailer, not an installer.
