The Superior VRT3500 is a radiant, smooth-faced vent-free firebox with a herringbone refractory interior, offered here in 36 inch (VRT3536WH) and 42 inch (VRT3542WH) sizes. It is a louverless design that needs no chimney, with a 28 inch tall refractory opening and mesh fire screens included. We also have one earlier 42 inch radiant VRT3000 firebox, VRT3042RH, while supplies last. Each takes a listed vent-free gas log set, sold separately.

Questions people ask us

Are logs included?

No. The VRT3500 is the firebox only. Add any listed ANSI Z21.11.2 vent-free log set; Superior recommends its own, such as Rugged Stack, Granite Ridge or Mossy Oak. Browse Superior gas log sets.

Natural gas or propane?

The firebox has no burner of its own, so the fuel comes from the vent-free log set you choose. Order the log set for your gas type.

Does it need a chimney?

No. It is a vent-free, louverless firebox, so no chimney or vent pipe is needed.

How high does the mantel need to be?

It depends on the mantel depth. Superior's spec sheet shows about 13 inches above the opening for a 4 inch projection and about 19 inches for a 7 inch projection. Check the manual for your exact layout.

What is the VRT3042RH?

An earlier Superior VRT3000 radiant vent-free firebox, 42 inch, with an RH herringbone refractory interior (catalog F0320). It is also listed to ANSI Z21.91, needs at least 42 inches from the top of the opening to the ceiling, and is available while supplies last. Ask us to match a log set to it.
