Sunstar SGL50 Radiant Patio Heater, Propane, Switch Control
The heater on its own, for a run where the brackets are already up or where the mounting is being built rather than bought. 50,000 BTU per hour on high and 34,000 on low, over roughly twelve feet by twelve.
- For a job that already has its mounting. If you are replacing a heater, extending a run that is already installed, or having the bracketry fabricated, the package mount is one more thing to store.
- Same heater as the packages. Identical burner, glass and controls. The packages are this heater with a mounting kit and, on the fixed mount versions, a heat shield.
- Brackets and shields are on this page. Telescopic wall and ceiling brackets, a fixed ceiling bracket and the heat shield for this size are all listed separately, so you can put together exactly the set you need.
Mounting height is 9 to 12 ft horizontal, 8.5 to 11 ft between 5 and 30 degrees and 8 to 10 ft between 30 and 60 degrees. Settle that height first, because it decides where the gas stub and the outlet have to come out of the wall. Gas work and the electrical supply are for a licensed professional. Have the gas line sized for every appliance on the run rather than for this heater alone, and confirm the supply pressure at the heater before it is commissioned.

Shipping and returns
Ships by freight with liftgate service, delivered curbside and by appointment. Check the carton for damage before you sign for it, and note anything you see on the delivery paperwork. Returns inside 30 days on unused stock in the original packaging.
Questions we get asked
Can I run this indoors?
Outdoors, yes. Indoors it is for non-residential spaces only, and those need at least 4 CFM of exhaust air for every 1,000 BTU per hour the heater is putting out. Tell us the room and whoever does your gas work will size the ventilation against that figure.
Can I change the fuel later?
No. The heater is built at the factory for natural gas or for propane and the two are not interchangeable. If you are not certain which runs to the spot, send us a photo of the meter or the tank and we will tell you which one to order.
Does it need power as well as gas?
Yes. The ignition and the controls run on 120 volt, 60 hertz single phase at 0.4 amp. It is a small supply but it has to be there, so put it on the electrician's list before the ceiling closes up.
Which bracket do I need?
The telescopic wall and ceiling kit covers most installations and lets you set the angle. The 10 inch fixed ceiling bracket is for a flush horizontal run. Send us the ceiling height and how you want the heater aimed and we will tell you which one, before you order.
