If the pilot lights but the heater will not stay running, or the pilot drops out as soon as the control calls for sustained operation, the thermocouple is one of the first millivolt components to inspect. A weak thermocouple can make a good pilot look unreliable because it is no longer generating the signal needed to keep the gas valve open.
This 35-inch 750mV thermocouple kit senses pilot flame heat and produces the electrical signal needed by compatible millivolt control systems. When it weakens, opens, or stops generating enough output, the heater may lose pilot hold and shut down. Replacing it restores the flame-sensing input that keeps the safety circuit satisfied.
