If you cannot trust the pressure reading, the temperature reading is obviously off, or the gauge lens is damaged and unreadable, the combination gauge is one of the first service parts to replace. A bad gauge makes routine maintenance harder because you lose two of the most useful visual references on the heater.
This bottom-mount temperature and pressure gauge provides a direct reading of system temperature and pressure at a 1/2 inch connection point. When the gauge sticks, fogs, leaks, or stops reading accurately, it becomes harder to diagnose water-side conditions and normal operation. Replacing it restores both readings in one instrument.
