If your 105 heater is leaking from the return side, showing corrosion around the header, or losing integrity at the water outlet end of the exchanger, the return header is one of the first water-side components to inspect. Header damage can create pressure loss, external leaks, and poor flow through the heater.
This cast iron return header collects heated water as it leaves the exchanger and directs it back into the plumbing path on the compatible 105 heater. When the header cracks, corrodes, or no longer seals properly, the heater can leak and lose water-side stability. Replacing it restores the return-side water routing assembly.
