Oxford Chaise Lounge in Solid Teak
A teak poolside chaise, 78.75 inches long with an adjustable back that rises to 34.5 inches. It is the heavy, permanent alternative to an aluminum lounger: 53 pounds of solid teak that stays where it is put and needs nothing done to it between seasons.
- An adjustable back. The back raises and lowers through the frame, so the same chaise works for reading upright and for lying flat in the sun.
- 78.75 inches long. Full length for an adult with room past the feet, which is what separates a chaise from a long chair.
- A 15 inch seat. Low, the way poolside seating should be. Easy to swing your legs over the side and stand straight up out of.
- Solid teak at the water's edge. Chlorine, salt spray and constant wet are what kill painted and coated loungers. Teak has no coating to fail.

Materials and Construction
Frame. Solid teak, sustainably sourced. Teak is used outdoors because of what is already in it: a high natural oil content that resists water absorption, insects and rot without any coating.
Finish. Supplied unfinished in natural teak. Left alone, the surface oxidizes to a soft silver gray over roughly one season. That change is cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood.

Care and Maintenance
Teak. No treatment is required. To keep the honey tone rather than let it silver, apply a teak sealer once a season to a dry frame. Do not use a pressure washer, which tears the soft grain out from between the harder rings. For general cleaning, warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked along the grain.
Off season. The frame can stay outside all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the back really adjust?
Yes, the back section moves through the frame to several positions between upright and flat. That is what the 34.5 inch overall height refers to, with the back raised.
Can it be used right at the pool edge?
That is what it is built for. Teak is used on wet decks because its natural oils keep water out of the grain. Rinse chlorine or salt off the frame with fresh water now and then.
How much space does one need?
About 7 feet by 3 feet with room to walk past. The chaise itself is 78.75 by 25.5 inches, and you want a clear foot on either side for getting on and off.
Does it have wheels?
No. The Oxford chaise is a fixed teak frame at 53 pounds, meant to be sited rather than wheeled around daily. Two people move it easily.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. The carton is only a few inches deep, so the piece ships flat and assembles on site. Lay the parts out first, start every fastener before you tighten any of them, and the frame pulls up square.
Will the teak turn gray?
It will, over roughly a season outdoors, unless you seal it. The silver gray is surface oxidation and does not weaken the wood. A teak sealer applied once a season to a dry frame holds the honey color instead.
Can it stay outside through the winter?
Yes. Teak carries its own oil, which is why it is used on boat decks and why this frame needs no coating. Freeze and thaw cycles do not damage it and nothing needs to come in.
