Oxford Adirondack Chair in Solid Teak
The Adirondack chair built in solid teak instead of painted softwood or plastic. It keeps the shape people buy Adirondacks for, a reclined slatted back and wide flat arms, and adds a wood that can be left outside indefinitely without a coat of paint.
- Wide flat arms. The arm of an Adirondack is the table. These are broad enough to hold a drink and a plate, which is the whole point of the design.
- A 16 inch seat, reclined. Low and pitched back. You settle into it rather than sitting up in it, which is why it suits a fire pit or a lawn more than a dining table.
- 35.5 inches deep. Deep enough to stretch out. Allow the full depth plus room to get in and out when you are placing a pair of them.
- Teak, not painted wood. Nothing to repaint every other spring. Left alone the frame silvers and stays structurally exactly as it was.

Materials and Construction
Frame. Solid teak, sustainably sourced. Teak is used outdoors because of what is already in it: a high natural oil content that resists water absorption, insects and rot without any coating.
Finish. Supplied unfinished in natural teak. Left alone, the surface oxidizes to a soft silver gray over roughly one season. That change is cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood.

Care and Maintenance
Teak. No treatment is required. To keep the honey tone rather than let it silver, apply a teak sealer once a season to a dry frame. Do not use a pressure washer, which tears the soft grain out from between the harder rings. For general cleaning, warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked along the grain.
Off season. The frame can stay outside all year.

Is there a matching footstool?
Yes. The Oxford Adirondack Footstool is 16.5 inches high and 22 inches wide, built to sit at the front of this chair. At a 16 inch seat height the two line up almost exactly when your legs are out.
How much room do two of them need?
Each chair is 31 inches wide and 35.5 inches deep. A pair with a small table between them wants about 7 feet of frontage and 4 feet of depth, including room to stand up out of them.
Is it easy to get out of?
Less so than a dining chair, by design. The seat is 16 inches high and pitched back, so you push off the wide arms to stand. That reclined angle is what makes it comfortable to sit in for an hour.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. The carton is only a few inches deep, so the piece ships flat and assembles on site. Lay the parts out first, start every fastener before you tighten any of them, and the frame pulls up square.
Will the teak turn gray?
It will, over roughly a season outdoors, unless you seal it. The silver gray is surface oxidation and does not weaken the wood. A teak sealer applied once a season to a dry frame holds the honey color instead.
Can it stay outside through the winter?
Yes. Teak carries its own oil, which is why it is used on boat decks and why this frame needs no coating. Freeze and thaw cycles do not damage it and nothing needs to come in.
