Mende Collection
Mende Sofa
Nearly seven feet of Blonde Cane Weave on a powder coated aluminum frame, with Sunbrella cushions and an 18 inch seat. It is the largest piece in the Mende collection and the one that sets the scale for everything arranged around it.
- 82.25 inches across. A full three seat sofa, not a loveseat stretched to fit. It needs a terrace that can give it a clear seven foot run.
- Blonde Cane Weave on the whole body. Oxford Garden's synthetic cane, used on Mende only. It wraps the back and sides rather than appearing as an inset panel.
- Cast Ash is the stocked fabric. Oxford Garden stocks the Cast Ash Sunbrella for Mende, and other Sunbrella fabrics are made to order.
- An 18 inch seat, 34.25 inches deep. Identical to the Mende Club Chair, so a sofa and a pair of chairs read as one group rather than three separate purchases.

| Cast Ash | The Cast Ash Sunbrella Oxford Garden stocks for Mende. |
| Other Sunbrella fabrics, made to order | Your choice from the wider Sunbrella range, made to order in the fabric you pick. |
Own fabric orders are quoted by phone, because the cost depends on the material, the yardage and the run. We will confirm the quote with Oxford Garden before anything is ordered.
Materials and Construction
Frame. Marine grade aluminum, powder coated. Aluminum does not rust, so the frame does not depend on a coating staying perfect to survive, and it stays light enough that one person can move the piece without help. The powder coat is baked on rather than sprayed, which is why it holds at the joints where outdoor furniture usually fails first.
Weave. Blonde Cane Weave, used on the Mende collection only. It is a synthetic cane that reads like traditional caning but is built for commercial duty outdoors, so it does not swell, split or mildew the way natural cane does when it is rained on.
Feet. Leg end caps are fitted at the factory so the frame does not mark decking, tile or stone when it is slid rather than lifted.
Cushions. Solution dyed acrylic. The color goes into the fiber before it is spun rather than being printed onto finished cloth, which is why these fabrics hold color in direct sun far longer than a conventional outdoor print.
What Is Included
- One Mende Sofa, Blonde Cane Weave over a powder coated aluminum frame
- Seat and back cushions in the fabric you select
The powder coat finish is specified at order time and confirmed on your acknowledgment.

Care and Maintenance
Cushions. Brush off loose dirt, sponge with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly and air dry. Do not machine dry. Bring cushions in or cover them when the piece is not in use for long stretches.
Blonde Cane Weave. Rinse and wipe with mild soap and water, using a soft brush along the weave rather than across it. It needs no oiling or sealing, which is the practical difference from natural cane.
Powder coated aluminum. Wash with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners, which dull the finish. Touch up a deep scratch promptly so salt and grit have nothing to work at.
Off season. The powder coated aluminum frame can stay outside all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does it seat?
Three comfortably. At 82.25 inches wide with an 18 inch seat and 34.25 inches of depth it is a full size outdoor sofa, and it is designed to face a pair of Mende club chairs across a low table.
What is the difference between the fabric choices?
Only the cloth. The cushions themselves are identical in foam, construction and finished size. Cast Ash is stocked here, and any other Sunbrella fabric is made to order in the one you choose.
Will it fit through my gate?
The carton is 83 inches long by 35 wide by 31 high and the sofa itself is 82.25 by 34.25. That clears a 36 inch gate turned on edge, but a tight corner in a side path will stop it. Measure the route before delivery day.
What is Blonde Cane Weave?
Blonde Cane Weave is Oxford Garden's synthetic cane, used on Mende and on nothing else in the line. It gives the look of traditional caning with commercial outdoor durability, so it does not swell, split or mildew the way natural cane does once it has been rained on.
Does it match the Mende Club Chair?
Yes. Both sit at 18 inches and both are 34.25 inches deep, so a sofa flanked by club chairs lines up at the seat and the arm. That is how the collection is drawn to be used.
Can I leave it outside all year?
The powder coated aluminum frame and the synthetic cane weave can stay out through the season without special treatment. Cushions last substantially longer stored dry or under a cover during long stretches of disuse.
How is it delivered?
By LTL freight on a pallet, to the curb with lift gate service. The carrier will contact you to arrange a window. Moving it into a yard or onto a deck is not part of curbside service, so plan a second pair of hands.
What else is in the Mende collection?
A side chair, a club chair and a sofa, all built on the same Blonde Cane Weave and powder coated aluminum. The club chair and sofa share an 18 inch seat height and a 34.25 inch depth, so they sit level with each other around a low table.
