Islay Bar Chair in Solid Teak
A teak bar stool with a back and a 30 inch seat, built to work with the Islay 36 inch square bar table. It is 45 inches to the top of the back, which means it reads as a chair at the bar rather than a perch.
- A 30 inch seat height. True bar height. It pairs with the Islay bar table at 41.5 inches, leaving the 11 or 12 inches of knee room a bar stool needs.
- A full back at 45 inches. Most outdoor bar stools stop at the small of your back. This one carries a slatted back to shoulder height, which is what makes it usable for a whole meal.
- A footrest built into the frame. The lower rail carries your feet. Without one, a 30 inch seat leaves your legs hanging, and that is what makes a bar stool uncomfortable.
- Only 18.5 inches wide. Four of them fit around a 36 inch square table without touching.

Materials and Construction
Frame. Solid teak, sustainably sourced. Teak is used outdoors because of what is already in it: a high natural oil content that resists water absorption, insects and rot without any coating.
Finish. Supplied unfinished in natural teak. Left alone, the surface oxidizes to a soft silver gray over roughly one season. That change is cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood.

Care and Maintenance
Teak. No treatment is required. To keep the honey tone rather than let it silver, apply a teak sealer once a season to a dry frame. Do not use a pressure washer, which tears the soft grain out from between the harder rings. For general cleaning, warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked along the grain.
Off season. The frame can stay outside all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many fit around the Islay 36 inch bar table?
Four. Each chair is 18.5 inches wide and the table is 36 inches square, so one chair per side sits square with room at the corners.
Will it work at my kitchen island or outdoor bar?
If the counter is 40 to 42 inches high, yes. The seat is 30 inches, which is standard bar height. For a 36 inch counter you want a counter stool at about 24 inches instead.
Is it stable at that height?
The legs splay outward toward the floor, which widens the footprint below the 18.5 inch seat. That splay is what stops a tall stool from going over sideways when someone leans.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. The carton is 5 inches deep, so the piece ships flat and assembles on site. Start every fastener before you tighten any of them and the frame pulls up square.
Will the teak turn gray?
It will, over roughly a season outdoors, unless you seal it. The silver gray is surface oxidation and changes nothing structurally. A teak sealer once a season holds the honey tone.
Can it stay outside all year?
Yes. Teak carries its own oil and needs no coating, so rain, sun and frost do not damage the frame. Nothing needs to be brought indoors.
