Islay 36" Square Bar Table in Solid Teak
A 36 inch square teak bar table standing 41.5 inches high, with a 2 inch umbrella hole through the top and a plug for when the umbrella is out. Four Islay bar chairs sit around it, one to a side.
- 41.5 inches to the top. Bar height. Against the Islay bar chair's 30 inch seat that leaves the 11 and a half inches of knee clearance a bar table needs.
- A 36 inch square top. Square rather than round, so four chairs sit one per side and nobody is at a corner. It is the right size for four and too small for six.
- A 2 inch umbrella hole with a plug. The hole takes a market umbrella through the middle of the table, and the supplied plug closes it off cleanly when it is not in use.
- 34.3 pounds of solid teak. Enough mass to keep a bar height table steady, which matters more at this height than at dining height because the top is further from the ground.

Materials and Construction
Frame. Solid teak, sustainably sourced. Teak is used outdoors because of what is already in it: a high natural oil content that resists water absorption, insects and rot without any coating.
Finish. Supplied unfinished in natural teak. Left alone, the surface oxidizes to a soft silver gray over roughly one season. That change is cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood.

Care and Maintenance
Teak. No treatment is required. To keep the honey tone rather than let it silver, apply a teak sealer once a season to a dry frame. Do not use a pressure washer, which tears the soft grain out from between the harder rings. For general cleaning, warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked along the grain.
Off season. The frame can stay outside all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does it seat?
Four, one per side. Each side is 36 inches, which is a comfortable place setting, and the Islay bar chair is 18.5 inches wide so there is clearance at the corners.
What size umbrella pole does the hole take?
The hole is 2 inches, which is 50mm. Market umbrella poles are usually 1.5 or 1.9 inches and use the ring adapter supplied with the base. The plug closes the hole when no umbrella is in it.
Can I put a base under it for the umbrella?
Yes, and at bar height you should. The table stands 41.5 inches high with an open frame underneath, so a standard base sits under the middle. Check your base against the leg spread.
Will the top hold water?
No. The top is slatted teak, so rain runs through the gaps rather than standing on it. Clear leaves out of the gaps a few times a season.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. The carton is 5 inches deep, so the piece ships flat and assembles on site. Start every fastener before you tighten any of them and the frame pulls up square.
Will the teak turn gray?
It will, over roughly a season outdoors, unless you seal it. The silver gray is surface oxidation and changes nothing structurally. A teak sealer once a season holds the honey tone.
How is it delivered?
By LTL freight to the curb with lift gate service, in a 44 by 38 by 5 inch carton at 46 pounds. The driver brings it to the curb and no further.
