Classic Side Chair in Solid Teak
An armless teak dining chair with a tall slatted back, built to the same pattern Oxford Garden has used for the Classic collection for years. At 19.25 inches across it takes up very little table edge, which is what lets you seat six around a table sized for four.
- A 19.25 inch footprint. Narrower than most outdoor dining chairs, so you can fit more of them around the same table without anyone knocking elbows.
- A 17.25 inch seat height. Standard dining height. It clears the apron of a 29 inch table with room to cross your legs.
- Contoured slat back, 35 inches tall. The back is shaped rather than flat, which is why the chair is comfortable through a long dinner without a cushion.
- Solid teak, no coating. There is no paint or varnish to flake off, because there is none on it. The wood is left to do the work.

Materials and Construction
Frame. Solid teak, sustainably sourced. Teak is used outdoors because of what is already in it: a high natural oil content that resists water absorption, insects and rot without any coating.
Finish. Supplied unfinished in natural teak. Left alone, the surface oxidizes to a soft silver gray over roughly one season. That change is cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood.

Care and Maintenance
Teak. No treatment is required. To keep the honey tone rather than let it silver, apply a teak sealer once a season to a dry frame. Do not use a pressure washer, which tears the soft grain out from between the harder rings. For general cleaning, warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked along the grain.
Off season. The frame can stay outside all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many of these fit around a 48 inch round table?
Four sit comfortably and six will go if the table has no apron in the way. Each chair is only 19.25 inches wide, so the limiting factor is usually the table edge rather than the chairs.
Do I need a cushion?
Not for comfort at a normal meal. The back slats are contoured and the seat is shaped. A seat pad is worth it if you sit for hours or if you want to soften the look of the bare wood.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. The carton is only a few inches deep, so the piece is packed flat and goes together on site. Work on a soft surface, start every fastener before you tighten any of them, and the frame will pull up square.
Will the teak turn gray?
It will, over roughly one season outdoors, unless you seal it. The silver gray patina is surface oxidation and does not weaken the wood. If you prefer the original honey tone, a teak sealer applied once a season holds it.
Can I leave it outside all winter?
Yes. Teak is used on boat decks for the same reason it is used here: the natural oils in the wood resist water, insects and rot without any coating. Nothing needs to come indoors.
Will it work under my existing table?
If the underside of your table is 24 inches or more off the ground, yes. This chair seats at 17.25 inches and its back is 35 inches tall, so it also tucks under most standard outdoor tables.
