Finish. Brass left to itself outdoors darkens into a patina. That is a surface change, not corrosion, and it can be polished back whenever you want the original shine.

Care and Maintenance
Brass. Wipe with a soft cloth. A proprietary brass polish will restore the shine; leaving it alone will let it tone down to a dark honey patina. Keep abrasives off it, which will scratch the face.
Fixings. If you are mounting it on teak, use brass or stainless screws. Plain steel will rust and stain the wood beneath it.

Does it come engraved?
The 2026 price list lists item BP as a brass plaque with no engraving line against it, so we do not sell it engraved. If you need lettering, an engraver will take a plate this size, or call us and we will ask Oxford Garden what is currently possible.
What size lettering fits on it?
The plate is 5 inches wide by 2 inches high. In practice that carries two or three short lines, which is enough for a name and a pair of dates. An engraver will confirm against your exact wording.
Which bench does it go on?
Oxford Garden lists it as a general accessory rather than against one bench. It suits any teak bench with a flat back rail or a wide leg face. Oxford Garden also builds a Signature Series bench with a panel designed for direct engraving, which is a different approach to the same job.
How is it fixed on?
Fixings are not part of the item. On teak, small brass or stainless screws are the usual answer, because a steel screw will bleed a rust line down the wood within a season.
Will it stay shiny?
No, not outdoors. Brass darkens as it develops a patina. A brass polish will bring the shine back whenever you want it; left alone it tones down and stops drawing the eye, which many people prefer on a memorial piece.
