The Osburn Matrix (OB02028) is a non-catalytic wood insert for an existing masonry fireplace, rated for 500 to 2,100 sq ft with a maximum heat output of 75,000 BTU/h. It has a wide, sleek front and a 2.4 cu ft firebox that takes logs up to 20" long. It burns up to 8 hours and comes with a 90 CFM blower. Osburn lists no required accessories for it.

Masonry fireplaces only.Osburn forbids installing the Matrix in a factory-built fireplace. It goes only inside a masonry fireplace with a lined masonry chimney, and it is not approved for mobile homes. A certified installer or your local building official should check the installation before the first fire.

Questions people ask us

Does the Matrix need a faceplate or overlay?

Osburn lists no required accessories for the Matrix insert. For a larger fireplace opening, faceplate backing plate kits and a 2" or 4" projection kit are optional, sold separately in the trims and fronts collection.

Is the blower included?

Yes, a 90 CFM blower comes with the insert.

Can the Matrix go in a factory-built fireplace?

No. Osburn states that its wood-burning inserts must only be installed inside an existing masonry fireplace with a lined masonry chimney, never in a factory-built (zero clearance) fireplace or any wooden or combustible structure.

What chimney liner does it need?

A continuous 6" liner from the insert to the top of the chimney, listed to UL 1777 in the US. The chimney must be at least 12 ft tall and the whole system at least 15 ft from the floor.

Will it fit my fireplace?

The minimum opening is 23 3/8" H x 28 7/8" W x 19 5/8" D. Send us your measurements and we will check it with you. Ask us here.
