Napoleon Elevation X Direct Vent Fireplace, Electronic Ignition
Napoleon Elevation X Direct Vent Fireplace, Electronic Ignition

A 36 inch clean-face flame behind sealed glass. The Elevation X 36 is a direct vent natural gas fireplace with two built-in blowers, ember bed lighting and a remote and phone app included. It draws its combustion air from outside and sends the exhaust back out, so the flame never uses the air in your room. Napoleon classes it as a decorative appliance, built for the look of the fire rather than as a source of heat.
Two pipes in one run: exhaust goes out through the inner pipe while fresh air comes in around it.

Questions people ask us
What does direct vent mean for this fireplace?
It means the fireplace is sealed. Combustion air comes in from outside and exhaust goes back out through a two-in-one pipe, a 5ā³ exhaust inside an 8ā³ air intake. The flame does not use your room air, and you do not need a chimney.
Plan the route before you order. Napoleon allows up to 20 ft of horizontal vent, with vertical and horizontal runs together up to 40 ft. Longer runs need a power vent, and the fireplace is certified for use with a power vent kit. The pipe and termination are sold separately.
Is it a heater?
No. Napoleon's installation manual describes the Elevation X as a decorative product that is not a source of heat. It has built-in blowers you run from the remote, but the 37,000 BTU/hr figure is the most gas the burner can use, not a heating rating. Plan the heating of your room separately and choose this fireplace for the flame.
Do decorative panels come with it?
No, and they are required. Napoleon's installation manual says the fireplace does not include decorative panels, that panels are required and that kits are sold separately. Choose brick, MIRRO-FLAME⢠porcelain, antique ledgestone or Black Illusion Glass panels in the add-ons below, and tick one so it goes into your cart with the fireplace.
What comes with the fireplace?
Napoleon lists a premium safety barrier, a heat circulating blower system, a ProFlame 2 remote control, the Bluetooth eFIRE controller and a battery back-up control system as standard, and the manual describes two built-in blowers and ember bed lights with a dimmable Night Lightā¢. Logs, panels, trim, vent pipe and the termination are sold separately.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes. The installation manual lists a Bluetooth control module in the fireplace and describes Napoleon's eFIRE app, which can switch the fireplace on and off, set flame height, run the light, set the blower and set a timer. Napoleon notes that feature availability can vary by appliance, and that the remote always works as the master control.
Can I mount a TV above it?
Napoleon's installation manual, section 9.9, shows three TV layouts: flush with or without a mantel, and recessed with a TV bracket. It asks for at least 2 in. between the top of the opening and the bottom of the TV, and recommends no more than 3 in.
These are minimums offered in good faith, not a guarantee for your TV. Napoleon says TV temperatures must be checked at the time of installation, and a TV cannot be used where it runs hotter than its maker allows. Raising the TV or adding mantel depth can lower the temperature. Send us your wall dimensions if you want a second opinion.
Can I put a mantel above it?
Yes, but the depth of the mantel sets how high it has to sit. Napoleon's chart in section 9.10 of the installation manual gives the minimum height above the opening for each depth, for example 15 in. for a 2 in. mantel and 21 in. for an 8 in. mantel. Napoleon says mantel clearances can be reduced when the Dynamic Heat Control kit (DHCEX) is installed.
Do I need the non-combustible kit or the Dynamic Heat Control kit?
Napoleon asks you to choose early, because the framing is different. The non-combustible kit (NCEX36) is for finishing with non-combustible materials and needs no air outlet opening. The Dynamic Heat Control kit (DHCEX) lets you frame and finish in combustible materials up to the opening, and it needs a vented enclosure with an air outlet opening. The Dynamic Heat Control kit must go in before the vent and gas are connected.
Is this the natural gas or the propane model?
Natural gas. The propane version is a separate model, the EX36PTEL. Napoleon says the fireplace is only for the gas type on its rating plate and can be changed only with a certified conversion kit. Tell us before you order if you plan to change fuels.
What happens in a power outage?
Napoleon's manual describes a battery back-up. With batteries in the receiver, flame height and on/off control keep working. The blowers and Night Light⢠do not run on battery power. Your installer sets it up before the gas goes on, so mention it when you book the install.
Where can I install it?
Napoleon approves the Elevation X for bathroom, bedroom and bed-sitting room installations and certifies it for mobile homes. It is hard wired, so it needs a 120 V supply, and it must be installed by licensed professionals in line with Napoleon's installation manual and your local codes.
