Napoleon Altitude 36 Fireplace, Direct Vent, Electronic Ignition
Napoleon Altitude 36 Fireplace, Direct Vent, Electronic Ignition

A 36 inch traditional-style direct vent natural gas fireplace with electronic ignition. The Altitude 36 has a clean-faced design that opens up a wide view of the firebox, and Napoleon ships it with a hand-painted, split oak log set. Napoleon classes it as a decorative appliance, built for the look of the fire rather than as a source of heat.
Two pipes in one run: exhaust goes out through the inner pipe while fresh air comes in around it.

Questions people ask us
Is it a heater?
No. Napoleon labels the Altitude 36 a vented decorative gas appliance that is not a source of heat, not intended for use as a heating appliance, and not for use with solid fuel. Choose it for the flame and plan the heating of the room separately.
Is this the natural gas or the propane model?
A36NTE is the natural gas model. Napoleon’s rating plate lists A36NTE for natural gas and A36PTE for propane, so pick the one that matches your gas supply. If you are unsure which gas you have, ask us before you order.
What gas pressure does it need?
Napoleon’s owner’s manual lists a supply pressure of 4.5 in. w.c. minimum and 7 in. w.c. maximum on natural gas, with a manifold pressure of 3.5 in. w.c. Have your gas fitter confirm the supply before the fireplace goes in.
How do the ignition and remote work?
The Altitude 36 has an on demand pilot (IPI). The pilot lights when the fireplace is called on, and then the burner follows. Napoleon also built in a continuous pilot mode with an integrated seven day timer.
The remote is optional on this model. Napoleon describes keys for on/off, thermostat, and flame up and down, a display in °F or °C, and a child-proof function. It takes AAA batteries, two for each transmitter. Ask us if you want one added to your order.
What happens in a power outage?
Napoleon says you can run the appliance from a USB power bank as a battery back-up. In that mode you get flame height and on/off only, and Napoleon notes that blower and Night Light operation is not possible.
Do I need an electrical connection?
Yes. Napoleon’s manual lists 115 V, 60 Hz and less than 12 amperes. Plan for an electrician as well as a gas fitter.
How do I clean the glass?
The Altitude 36 has 5 mm ceramic glass. Napoleon says to use an ammonia-free glass cleaner after the first 4 hours of use, and never to use razor blades or steel wool on it.
Where can I install it?
Napoleon approves the Altitude 36 for bedroom, bathroom and bed-sitting room installations, and says it is suitable for a mobile home when installed to CAN/CSA Z240MH or 24 CFR Part 3280. It must be installed by licensed professionals in line with Napoleon’s instructions and your local codes. Napoleon asks that objects stay at least 4 ft away from the front of the appliance.
What can I add to the fireplace?
Napoleon lists Zen fronts in black or charcoal and MIRRO-FLAME™ reflective porcelain panels for the Altitude 36, and you can add them to your cart with the fireplace below. Napoleon also lists finishing trims in black, charcoal, copper and gun metal, and decorative brick panels in Newport and Westminster styles. Ask us about those, and about the remote.
What comes with it?
Napoleon describes a hand-painted, split oak log set as standard. The remote, fronts, trims, brick or reflective panels and the venting are separate. Send us your wall and vent path and we will check what your install needs before you order.
