The Iron Strike top warming surface kit is the required top panel for the ML230GL and ML300GL wood inserts, sold as the Iron Strike Montlake and as the Country Stoves Carrollton. IHP offers it in solid heavy steel or classic cast iron. Each insert size has its own kit: H8673 (steel) and H8674 (cast iron) for the ML230GL, F2028 (steel) and F2029 (cast iron) for the ML300GL.

Is the top optional?
No. IHP lists the top warming surface kit as one required for both the ML230GL and the ML300GL. The insert is not finished without it.
What is the difference between the steel and cast iron tops?
IHP offers a solid heavy steel top and a classic cast iron top, and either one meets the one-required top kit. Pick the look you want on the hearth.
How do I tell if I have the 230 or the 300?
The model number is on the rating label. ML230GL is the Montlake 230, also sold as the Carrollton 230. ML300GL is the Montlake 300, also sold as the Carrollton 300.
When does the top go on?
IHP's manual has you install the top warming surface after the surround panels. See the installation manual for the steps.
