Hearth Classics Traditional Hearth Pad, Classic Edge, Type 2

The Hearth Classics Traditional Hearth Pad with the Classic Edge frame is a Type 2 hearth pad, also called a stove board, that protects the floor under and around a freestanding stove from embers and heat. Questions people ask us
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2?
Type 1 protects the floor from falling embers only. Type 2 protects against embers and heat, so the heat that comes down and forward from the stove does not pass through the pad into the floor. Hearth Classics tests its hearth pads to meet or exceed UL 1618, the safety standard for floor protectors, wall protectors and hearth extensions.
How do I know which type I need?
Your stove manufacturer's manual tells you. It lists the clearances, whether the floor needs Type 1 or Type 2 protection, and what the floor protector must provide. Choose a pad that meets or exceeds the manual, and follow local codes.
Standard or Corner?
A Standard pad sits in front of a stove placed along a flat wall. A Corner pad is the shape for a stove set in the corner of a room. Sizes are given depth by width, so a 48" x 48" pad is 48 inches each way at its widest.
Will my pad match the photos?
Close, but not exactly. Slate and stone are natural materials and tile runs vary, so Hearth Classics notes that colors can differ from photos and from a sample. If color matters, order a Classic Edge color sample first.
Not sure which size you need?
Send us your stove model and a photo of the space and we will check the manual's floor protection with you. Ask us here.
