View full details

Flare DG-FF-50-H is the double glass safety barrier for the Flare-FF-50-H, the 50 inch front facing direct vent fireplace with 24 inch high glass. It puts a second layer of glass in front of the firebox so the outer pane is, in Flare's words, safe enough for a brief touch. On front facing models Flare uses its Passive double glass: a second tempered glass layer and a passive air intake in the surround, with no fans.

Questions people ask us

Which fireplace does DG-FF-50-H fit?

It is made for the Flare-FF-50-H, the 50" front facing with 24" glass and a 47 15/16" x 24" viewing window. Other lengths and glass heights use their own double glass part numbers.

Does double glass need an air intake?

Yes. Flare's Air Intake Specification Manual requires one on every fireplace with the double glass barrier. For this size it calls for at least 50 sq in of open air flow, placed between the floor and the body of the fireplace and kept open at all times. Grilles and finishes over the opening reduce air flow, so size them with that in mind.

Can I add double glass to a fireplace that has the mesh screen?

Flare's parts lists show different trim fillers for screen and double glass versions, so a change usually involves more than the glass. Flare does not publish a retrofit procedure. Send us your model and serial number and we will confirm with Flare what is needed.

Does Passive double glass work in a power outage?

Flare says yes. The Passive version has no fans, runs silently, keeps working during a power outage and does not change the fireplace dimensions or framing.

Not sure which double glass you need?

The part number follows the fireplace model. Send us the model from the rating plate and we will match it.
