Questions people ask us
Is DVL a chimney?
No. DVL is double-wall connector pipe (stovepipe). It runs inside the room from the appliance to a Duravent factory-built chimney listed to UL 103HT, such as DuraPlus or DuraTech. Duravent says it must not be enclosed or pass through walls, ceilings, attics or closets.
How close can DVL run to a wall?
Duravent publishes 6 inches to walls and 8 inches to ceilings, including cathedral ceilings, measured at 90 degrees to the pipe. Single-wall pipe needs 18 inches. The appliance manual still sets the connector clearances for that appliance.
Can DVL pipe be cut to length?
No. Duravent says DVL pipe cannot be cut. Use the adjustable or telescoping lengths to make up the run, and lock them with screws once set.
Can I use DVL in a manufactured home?
Duravent says DVL is required for a solid fuel appliance in a mobile or manufactured home, and must not be used there if the stove is not listed for that use. Check the stove manual first.
Which appliances can DVL connect?
Duravent's instructions say DVL is used to connect an appliance that burns wood, coal, oil or gas, and that every wood burning appliance needs its own connector and chimney. The appliance manual decides the approved venting, so send us the appliance model if you want it checked.
