Questions people ask us

What is DuraPlus listed for?

DuraPlus is a triple-wall, all-fuel chimney listed to UL 103HT (MH7399). Duravent rates it for residential appliances fueled by wood, oil, coal or gas, for continuous operation at 1000 F flue gas temperature. The appliance manual decides which chimney is approved, so check it or send us the model.

How much pipe do I need?

Each length loses 1 1/2 inches at the joint, so subtract that from each section when you add up the run. Remember the roof height rules below and the support box or tee support at the base.

How high does the chimney need to go?

Duravent's instructions quote NFPA 211: at least 3 feet above the point where it passes through the roof and 2 feet higher than any part of the building within 10 feet. DuraPlus may be installed up to 35 feet high, and an Extended Roof Bracket is required if it runs more than 4 feet above the roof.

What pipe connects the stove to DuraPlus?

Inside the room you use connector pipe: Duravent DuraBlack single-wall (18 inches to combustibles) or DVL double-wall (6 inches to walls, 8 inches to ceilings). Duravent warns never to run single-wall stovepipe through a wall thimble.

Can I mix DuraPlus with other chimney parts?

Use DuraPlus components throughout the chimney. Duravent's connector pipe and adapters join it to the stovepipe. Ask us if you are matching an existing chimney.
