Questions people ask us
Is the 10" elbow adjustable?
No. Duravent lists the 10BVL90-1 as a fixed 90 degree elbow. The 6" and 8" elbows adjust and rotate 360 degrees.
How should a horizontal run be supported?
Duravent's instructions call for lateral runs to be supported at least every 5 feet. The appliance manual and codes set how long the horizontal run may be.
Can I use this on a wood stove, pellet stove or oil furnace?
No. Duravent lists Model BV Type B gas vent for listed natural gas or LP Category I gas appliances with draft hoods and appliances listed for Type B vent, with flue gases up to 470°F. Its catalog warns that oil or wood burning appliances can damage the vent, and it is not for Category II, III or IV gas appliances. Wood and pellet appliances need a chimney or vent system listed for them.
What does the -1 at the end of the 10" and 12" part numbers mean?
In Duravent's current Model BV catalog the 10" and 12" parts carry a -1 suffix, for example 10BV12-1, and join with the DuraTab method: align the notches, slide together and press in the tab. Duravent's earlier catalog listed the same sizes without the suffix and with a DuraLock snap-in joint. Duravent's instructions do not cover mixing the two, so ask us before joining a -1 part to older 10" or 12" pipe.
Who should install it?
Duravent warrants the vent fully only when a professional installer puts it in. A licensed gas professional should install the system to Duravent's instructions, NFPA 54 (the National Fuel Gas Code) and local codes. The appliance manufacturer's manual decides which venting is approved and the vent size and layout, so send us the appliance model and we will check.
