The Astria MM12AP, catalog number F0740, is the 12 inch damper and anchor plate kit for Grand Meridian wood-burning masonry fireboxes connected to an IHP chimney system. It mounts on top of the firebox smoke dome, holds the chimney adapter and gives the firebox its flue damper. The kit includes a 1 inch ceramic fiber insulation blanket for the underside of the plate.

Which firebox is it for?
It is the 12 inch damper and anchor plate kit in the Grand Meridian manual, listed in the MM33 and MM63 parts lists. On the MM39, MM44 and MM49 the plate is not supplied and may be 12 or 14 inch to match the dome top, so check yours.
I have a masonry chimney.
Then the manual calls for the MC14AP (F0780) 14 inch anchor plate and damper instead. Ask us for it.
How does it install?
The insulation blanket goes on the bottom of the plate, the plate sets into a bead of gasket cement on the smoke dome and is fixed with four masonry screws. The chimney adapter then centers on top, and the damper chain stop goes on the lintel.
Can I light a fire with the damper closed?
No. The flue damper must be open whenever there is heat in the fireplace, and both the damper and any glass doors must be fully open before starting a fire.
