High-Performance Cartridge Filtration for Demanding Pool Systems

The AquaStar PLF35000 Pipeline Cartridge Filter is designed to deliver the water clarity of a high-performance filtration system while maintaining the straightforward cleaning and servicing advantages of cartridge filtration. AquaStar's Pipeline design directs water uniformly through the cartridge media, helping utilize the available filtration surface rather than concentrating flow in isolated areas.

A large uniform tank, engineered pleat spacing and high-flow center core work together to support efficient debris capture and low-restriction circulation. This makes the PLF35000 an excellent option for larger residential pools, commercial applications and equipment systems requiring higher flow rates.

360° Uniform Water Flow

AquaStar's uniform tank design distributes water around the cartridge media to promote more complete use of the available filtration surface.

Engineered Pleat Spacing

Purpose-designed cartridge pleat spacing maximizes usable surface area and promotes effective debris capture while maintaining efficient flow.

High-Flow Core Design

The Pipeline filter's unique internal core uses enlarged openings to improve water distribution and support flow rates up to 200 GPM.

Easy Filter Access

AquaStar's patented double-locking system is designed for controlled depressurization and easier access compared with traditional clamp-style filter tanks.

  • Engineered pleat spacing helps maximize filtration area and debris capture.
  • Unique high-flow center core improves water distribution through the filter.
  • Patented double-locking system simplifies controlled depressurization and filter access.
  • No routine backwashing is required as with traditional sand or DE filtration systems.
  • Current Pipeline production includes a drain plug wrench and holder for easier servicing.
  • Designed and tested for freshwater swimming pools, spas and hot tubs.
Important Pool-Sizing Note: The "35,000 gallon" designation commonly associated with the PLF35000 refers to its approximately 35,640-gallon public/commercial 6-hour turnover capacity. It is not the maximum residential pool size. AquaStar currently lists a residential capacity of 96,000 gallons at an 8-hour turnover and 144,000 gallons at a 12-hour turnover. Final filter sizing must account for required turnover, pump performance, plumbing, local codes and overall system hydraulics.

Designed for Efficient Flow and Exceptional Water Clarity

Filtration performance depends on more than cartridge surface area alone. The AquaStar Pipeline system is engineered around how water actually travels through the filter. Its large uniform tank promotes 360° water flow, while the engineered cartridge spacing allows water and debris to move effectively through the media.

The result is a cartridge filtration system designed to maintain strong circulation while capturing suspended debris and helping produce clear pool water. For pool owners, this also means the convenience of cleaning a removable cartridge without the routine backwashing required by traditional sand and DE filter systems.

Pool Sizing & Compatibility

The AquaStar PLF35000 is suitable for appropriately designed freshwater residential and commercial swimming pool systems. Filter selection should be based on required flow and turnover calculations rather than pool gallonage alone.

AquaStar currently rates the PLF35000 for a 200 GPM residential design filtration flow rate and a 99 GPM public design filtration flow rate. Actual system flow may be limited by pump performance, pipe size, fittings, valves, heaters, sanitizing equipment and other hydraulic restrictions.

For replacement installations, verify plumbing configuration, available equipment-pad space and the required 76 inches of minimum vertical clearance before installation.

Current OnCore vs. Earlier Pure Pleat Models

AquaStar has updated the cartridge configuration used in Pipeline filters over the life of this product line. Current OnCore PLF35000 specifications list 265 sq. ft. of filter area and replacement cartridge PF35CART.

Earlier PLF35000 filters may use AquaStar's previous Pure Pleat cartridge configuration, which had different cartridge specifications and replacement media.

Do not select a replacement cartridge based only on the PLF35000 tank model. If you are servicing an existing filter, confirm the installed cartridge style and part number before ordering replacement media.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation should be completed in accordance with AquaStar's instructions and all applicable local pool, plumbing and electrical codes. Proper equipment-pad layout and adequate service clearance are especially important when installing a cartridge filter.

  • Maintain at least 76 inches of vertical clearance for access and servicing.
  • Never operate the filter above its 50 PSI maximum working pressure.
  • Shut the circulation pump off before opening or servicing the filter.
  • Fully relieve internal filter pressure before attempting to access the cartridge.
  • Clean the cartridge based on pressure rise, debris load, water conditions and manufacturer maintenance guidelines.
  • Inspect O-rings, seals, unions and related components during routine maintenance.
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated water temperature of 110°F.
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AquaStar PLF35000?
The AquaStar PLF35000 is a high-capacity Pipeline cartridge filter designed for residential and commercial freshwater swimming pool applications. Current OnCore models provide 265 sq. ft. of filtration area and support flow rates up to 200 GPM.

Is the PLF35000 limited to a 35,000-gallon residential pool?
No. The approximately 35,000-gallon rating refers to the public/commercial 6-hour turnover capacity. AquaStar lists substantially higher residential turnover capacities, including 96,000 gallons at an 8-hour turnover and 144,000 gallons at a 12-hour turnover.

What is the maximum flow rate of the AquaStar PLF35000?
AquaStar lists a maximum flow rate of 200 GPM. The current residential design filtration flow rate is also 200 GPM, although local codes or other components in the circulation system may require a lower operating flow.

How much filtration area does the PLF35000 have?
Current AquaStar OnCore PLF35000 models are rated at 265 sq. ft. of filtration area. Earlier Pure Pleat versions may have different specifications.

What replacement cartridge fits the current PLF35000?
AquaStar currently lists PF35CART as the replacement cartridge for the OnCore PLF35000 configuration. Older Pure Pleat filters may use different replacement media, so existing filter configuration should be verified before ordering.

Does the AquaStar PLF35000 need a multiport valve?
No traditional backwash-style multiport valve is required for normal cartridge filtration. Cartridge filters are serviced by removing and cleaning the filter element rather than reversing water flow through the filter for backwashing.

How much clearance does the PLF35000 require?
AquaStar specifies a minimum vertical clearance of 76 inches for the PLF35000.

What is the maximum working pressure?
The AquaStar PLF35000 has a maximum working pressure of 50 PSI.

Can the PLF35000 be used with a variable-speed pool pump?
Yes, when the pump, filter, plumbing and remaining pool equipment are properly sized as a complete hydraulic system. Operating flow must remain within the ratings of every component in the circulation system.
