The 120 volt units also draw far more current for the same heat: a 1,500 watt heater pulls 12.5 amps at 120 volt and 6.3 amps at 240 volt.

Infratech ties a height range to every model, from 6 to 7 feet on a 1,500 watt unit up to 8 to 12 feet on a 6,000 watt one. Their listing floor is 6 feet for a UL Listed heater and 8 feet for a UL and CUL Listed one, and their own suggested minimum is 7 feet. Mount higher than the range and the heat spreads too thin; mount lower and it is uncomfortable overhead.

It depends on the area and how exposed it is, and the planner on this page works it out from Infratech’s own coverage chart. As a shape of the answer, a 4,000 watt dual element unit is rated to cover 8 by 10 feet in average conditions, and Infratech says outright that most spaces need more than one heater.

Yes, and it works better there. Infratech states that indoor or well protected environments generally exceed the average coverage figure, while extremely cold or windy spots deliver less. Keep 12 inches to the ceiling on a wall mount and 6 inches on a ceiling mount, and angle a wall mounted unit between 30 and 60 degrees so the warmth reaches people from the side rather than straight down on their heads.

Infratech publishes the same figures across every series: 36 inches in front of the heater, 18 inches at the sides and ends, and 6 inches behind. Allow 18 inches to an adjacent wall. These are minimums to combustible surfaces and they are worth handing to your installer before anything is mounted.

A licensed electrician. Infratech says it plainly in every manual, and adds that an electrician should confirm the actual voltage at your property before anything is ordered. We can tell you the amp draw of each model so the circuit gets sized properly, but the wiring is not a job to take on yourself.

Heat output is identical model for model, and so is coverage, mounting height and amp draw. The difference is the body and what it will accept. The W Series has short standoffs and a flatter profile for tight architectural installs. The C Series is the one that takes the decorative motif fronts, in Contemporary, Craftsman, Mediterranean and Traditional.
